The Shirley Band - one of the best brass bands in the region - to hold Christmas concert on 4 December

Shirley Band, one of the best brass bands from across the Midlands, is organising a Christmas concert on 4 December 2015 at Shirley's St James the Great Church on 4 December.

The 25-strong band - which from January will compete in the top-section of the brass band world - will perform a range of music written and arranged for brass band, including music from the Nutcracker, When a Child is Born, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, alongside a number of well-known Christmas carols.

Brian Johnson, the band's secretary, said: "Christmas is always one of the busiest times of the year for us, with the band performing dozens of engagements across Solihull and Birmingham. However, we're delighted to be making space in our diary to perform at St James. So if you want to get into the Christmas spirit, then why not come along. We're also offering free tickets available to children under 12. Hope to see you there!"

The band, which competed and qualified for the national brass band finals earlier this year, was formed in 1919 and is one of Solihull's oldest organisations. It will be conducted at the concert by the band's Musical Director, David Bishop Rowe, who has also arranged and written some of the music.

The concert will start at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced £7.50 for adults, £6 for concessions(students or OAPs) and free to children under 12.
